Entombment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mary was born on January 18, 1928, in Nürnberg, Germany, daughter of Wilhelm and Hedwig (Schaal) Bickel.

Mary was born and raised in Germany before eventually arriving at her final destination in Dubuque. She was a dedicated worker who diligently put her talents to good use at the Dubuque Packing Company for over 40 years, before finally retiring at the age of 70. She was also a long-time and proud member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union 150A. In her free-time, Mary appreciated a good adventure and spending time traveling with Ken was always a joyful option. They ventured to Germany to visit family, headed down to Florida to enjoy some better weather, but their yearly excursions to Las Vegas to visit her son, Bob, were surely her favorites. Mary was a very loving, generous and modest woman who easily defined the essence of beauty both inside and out. Her presence in this world was an undeniable blessing to all who knew and loved her and we will definitely miss her deeply and dearly until we are all reunited once again.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include

her son,
Robert "Bob" Martin, Dubuque, IA;

her 2 granddaughters,
Amy and Jenny;

a sister,
Helga (Petro) Celesti, Nürnberg, Germany;

her long-time family friend,
Dan (Jan) Smith, Dubuque, IA;

and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert John Martin, Sr.; a daughter-in-law, Alberta Martin; and her long-time companion, Kenny Vander Meulen.

A Margarete Mary Martin memorial fund has been established, which will be distributed among her favorite charities.

Mary's family would like to thank Dr. Kirkendall, and his nurse, Kate, for all of their kind, caring and professional care of Mary, and her family.
