Sister Harriet Holles, BVM, 84, of Marian Hall, 1050 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, Iowa, was called home peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at Marian Hall. To celebrate Sr. Holles' life, family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in the Marian Hall Chapel, followed by a scripture prayer service which will be held at 11 a.m. To honor Sr. Holle's life, funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Marian Hall Chapel. Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery. Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.
Harriet was a math and religious studies teacher, campus minister, spiritual resource person, department chair at Clarke University and was a math teacher at Loras College, both in Dubuque, where she also ministered as a self-employed spiritual director. She was a college math teacher in Chicago and Conception, Mo., where she also served in spiritual formation. She was also director of religious education in Springfield, Mo. In her early ministry, Harriet taught elementary school in Seattle and Clinton, Iowa; and ninth grade in Glendale, Calif.
She was born in Ladysmith, Wis., on March 23, 1933, daughter of Harry and Agnes Fandel Holles. She entered the BVM congregation on Sept. 8, 1953, from St. Walter Parish, Roselle, Ill. She professed her first vows on March 19, 1956, and final vows on July 16, 1961.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 sisters, Alice Laura Holles and Geraldine Helen Holles.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared her earthly life for 63 years.
